The stately complex of the Frederiksborg Castle is one of the most beautiful royal homes of Denmark. It was erected on a very unusual site, on three small islands, in the middle of a large channel, in the city of Hillerшd about forty kilometers northwest of Copenhagen.

The building owes its present form to king Christian the 4th, the architect king, who built this magnificent castle in the Renaissance style. Today the castle is the distinguished headquarters of the Museum of Danish National History, which was created in 1878 with the patronage of the Carlsberg Foundation. The many priceless works of art preserved here make a visit well worthwhile.
As for the castle interior, particularly noteworthy are the Council Hall, the Hall of the Knights and the Chapel, where the coronation ceremony of the Danish kings was held. The castle stands on three small islands and looks over the most beautiful barok garden, where it is so nice to walk after a guided tour.
