The country’s largest collection of art – from the era of Romanticism to 1950s – is kept within its walls. The gallery has also some paintings from “neighbours”: you can admire works by Gauguin, Picasso, El Greco and the impressionists in its halls. However, most visitors rush to the most famous and controversial masterpieces of Norwegian national painter Edvard Munch – “The Scream” and “Madonna”.
